GKN Sinter Metals‘ testing activities are performed in the R&D materials laboratory and quality assurance laboratories. Production is based on powder metallurgy, for which Bruneck is the market leader in the field of sintered bearings. Tests are carried out for internal and external parties (customers, suppliers). In addition to R&D, production support, customer care/consulting and damage analysis, these are pursued in close cooperation with internal central laboratories and the University of Trento. In the characterization of powders, green bodies and products, particle size distributions, chemistry, metallography and destructive materials testing play a role. Near-application tests of the products are obtained in test benches for pumps and for friction/wear behaviour. Technical cleanliness is assessed in the VDA19-compliant laboratory.
